Finnish rock's number one product for export has many things to do. A gig with Ozzy Osbourne is in dreams.
HIM didn't go the tour with their big idol Ozzy Osbourne after all, but Ville Valo's leading finnish band is looking at the future with really trusting minds. HIM's near future plans include for example tours, collection, dvd, worldwide record deal and new studioalbum's making.
In tight red leather jacket and black pants dressed Ville Valo comes to the interview few minutes late. The man is sorry about that, orders a beer with ice cubes and sits down with a smile one his face. HIM's last fall went totally crappy because Ozzy Osbourne cancelled tours time after time and from new year's eve gig's recovered Ville has already turned his head to the new tours and new recordings.
- I hope our new year's tradition - gig in Tavastia-klubi will come true also this year. The happening was more international this year than ever before, because there were people for example from USA, Russia, everywhere from Europe and from everywhere. I was also thinking that we could make this year some other party aswell maybe a day before new year's eve. We could play acoustic set and answer to the fans questions from different countries.
HIM's gigmotor turns on at the end of January when they go to the Europe. For example England's tour has been sold out already. Valo is still 'missing' for Ozzy, after all.
- Yeah, I hope so much that we could play even once just a one gig with Ozzy. Just one gig would be enough, its symbolical meaning for HIM would be huge. After All Black Sabbath was the biggest reason for making up this band at the beginning of 90s. I remember so well when we're sitting in Mige's mom's Lada (car), listening old Black Sabbath albums and clapping drum and bass things along the songs... Seriously, when I heard about Ozzy's accident in December and realised that the gigs together with him have been cancelled I totally broke down and thought this can't be happening!
HIM releases collection in the middle of March. Live album and dvd are still waiting for better days.
- I guess that the name of the collection will be And Love Said No and to the smaller title there will be something like best of. There will be all our singles and few fresh songs so all in all there will be about 80mins of material. There will come also with Tim Palmer recorded new songs And Love Said No and Solitary Man. It has been really easy to work with Palmer and I'm hoping that we could make the next album with him. I like so much those U2 records Palmer has been doing. They have big sound and in songs there's happening everything little out of the main line.
- Live Metal gigrecord might not be ever released but our first dvd will come for next xmas. There will come lots of things. Most of the gig dvds are boring and we're trying to make own dvd a lot more interesting. Band has rights for tons of live material and we have been filming with our own cameres also. Jackass-man Bam Margera has also at least 100 hours of HIM stuff filmed.
Neil Diamond's written and for example Johnny Cash's made Solitary Man fits to HIM from its theme.
- Wicked Game and Solitary Man basically belong to be performanced by us! Solitary's theme is in a way dark but at the same moment it's also amazingly ceremonious. In this song there are being proud of being along until someone comes and takes everything. I love this song almost more than Wicked Game and I guess that Solitary Man is our Collection's first single and video.
Collection Album will come out through BMG. HIM is discussing already with new record companies.
- All major record companies are interested but let's see from whom we'll get the best contract. There has to be at least that the record company is willing to release our next studioalbum worldwide. I think personally that band will go straight to some English or American recordcompany. Though from USA are still coming rude messages to Europe that which band is important and which isn't. And of course in the contract promised artistic freedom is absolutely very important.
Ville says that he has made already few ideas for at least 10 new songs.
- We're training new songs next summer because we're hoping to go record them in September October. Then we'll mix, master and make the covers. I would like to film many promo videos at the same time, even 2 or 3. In this point we're already going at the beginning of 2005. And if everything goes well in this year --> people are interested also in North-America, HIM grows bigger and bigger.
- In every case there will go lots of time for our new album's promotion, many months... so if this spring's releases don't count, the next new single will come just in the spring of 2005. Then we'll tour festivals and try to make gang realise "Hello, we're coming again" .Right from the beginning of the fall 2005 there will come new album and we'll go for a long tour.
- Okay, the schedule might sound a bit slow, but we don't want to rush because HIM is now in "Now or never" situation. Little by little we should get to go to kick people's balls also in USA and Japan etc.
